Said The Whale Giveaway: Because I Love to Give, and I Have Fucks to Give

Back in February I pre-ordered Said The Whale‘s new album As Long As Your Eyes Are Wide. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this album, i’m a huge Said The Whale fan but after a 3 year hiatus and loosing two band members it could go either way.

Three days later I made the split second decision to dive to Calgary and catch their midnight set at the BIG Winter Classic Music Festival and man am I glad I did. They had the same energy, the same passion, the glorious harmonies, all warped in a shiny new coat. Said The Whale is truly back!

The album pre-order came with an instant download including two tracks from the forthcoming album and two b-sides. One of the b-sides is a track called “Fucks to Give” and for the last month it’s been in super heavy rotation for me.

I fucking love having Fucks to Give.

I wish I could share the track with you. It’s fantastic but, hell you can’t even find the lyrics online. So I went back to my high school days and played, paused, hit rewind and played again until I could capture the lyrics to share with you.

Fucks To Give by Said The Whale

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

Because I love to give, and I have fucks to give

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

I got you – I’m the lucky one

I don’t fear the things I feared before

and I’ll let you hold back the door

And I want to know things like do you trust me

And if I had a different body would you still be

in love or would you be out the door

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

Because I love to give, and I have fucks to give

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

Somebody only wants you (x12)

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

Because I love to give, and I have fucks to give

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

You are beautiful inside and out

And you deserve to have love

You are beautiful inside and out

And you should feel respected

You, are you and no one else

You, are you and no one else

You, are worthy of real love

You, are worthy of love

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

Because I love to give, and I have fucks to give

I don’t want to love someone who doesn’t love me back

  1. Glad to hear you liked the new album so much, I’m quite curious myself!
My family and especially my wife gives me plenty of fucks to give. She’s my best friend and teaches me things in life all the time. I’m a better person having known her! 🙂

    1. When I saw them this winter they played a handful of tracks off the new album and I’ve been itching to get my hands on it ever since. That’s awesome that your wife is so amazing. Significant others can be a huge source of inspiration.

  2. Hey! I’ve been a fan of Said the Whale for almost four years now, and I’m super excited for this album. My favourite song so far from As Long as Your Eyes are Wide is Step Into the Darkness. It brought tears to my eyes when I first heard it.

Theatre, visual arts, and music are all things that I totally give a fuck about. I don’t know where’d I’d be without them.

This is a really awesome thing you’re doing by the way!

    1. Thanks Patricia! I am super passionate (some would say a little too passionate) about music, movies, and the arts. I’ve done similar giveaways like this on Twitter a few times, when I find something so good. I cant help but share it with the world! Step Into the Darkness is a fantastic song, Fucks to Give has similar in tonality to it, probaly one of th reasons I love it so much.

  3. Honestly the majority of the fucks I give are to my friends and family. At the end of the day I have a few fucks left and I give most of them to the students that I work with.

WOW. Reading that back makes me sound like a very terrible person!

Said The Whale has been a huge part of our family’s life. Going to shows with my wife whenever they are in town and watching my son dance to the “Camilo” video are a few highlights.

    1. You don’t sound terrible at all, I would use the term passionate. Camilo is the song that got my brother into Said The Whale and since we have been to many many of their shows together.

  4. Most of the fucks I give are reserved for my husband and sister, but I do give some fucks for family, friends, volunteering, Red Deer Public Library, reading, writing, riding horses, and working in agriculture. (The thing I give the most fucks about is having a life where everything in it is something I give a fuck about.)

  5. I love music we need to get together for a listening session. Have a couple cold ones too. I give many fucks about good music and wine.

  6. Man, that’s some quality album art… anyway, music! Music is amazing. And now that I’m a parent, seeing how music can effect mood and all sorts of other things in toddlers is the best thing about it. I give all sorts of vulgarity for that!

    1. Haha, I appreciate your aversion to profanity. This is the first time I’ve swore on my blog & Instagram story. It’s had an interesting response so far. The album art is beautiful! That is an awesome observation about toddlers. A few year ago after listening to MuteMath song Control on repeat and I deiced to do an experiment with the music I listen to as I work. Forever I’ve suppressed my emotions and I’ve found that mood shaping my music can really help me move threw some things. Since then I’ve started using the same technique with my children and I honestly feel like were all better for it.
